Summary:

in 2020 The National STEM learning centre based at York University acquired a pair of replica Sokol space suits as worn by Tim Peake when he took part in the Principia mission to the international space station. The client team wanted to display the suits in a floating ‘Zero-G’ arrangement by suspending them from the ceiling of their large indoor atrium space.

I was tasked with designing a pair of ‘pose-able’ life-size mannequin skeletons that could be inserted into the suits and fitted with padding to give the appearance that they were being worn by astronauts. As part of the design process, I was also involved in working out the suspension methodology and plotting out how each of the suits would be hung from the atrium ceiling.
